With this Ugandan Robusta, we want to invite you to discover a side of coffee that is often overlooked. Robusta has been part of coffee culture for generations, yet it is still widely misunderstood. While it has historically been valued for strength, body, and productivity, we believe there is a future where carefully produced Robusta can earn its place within specialty coffee.

This lot comes from Agri Evolve, a profit-for-purpose company working with smallholder farmers in the Rwenzori region of Western Uganda. Since 2015, they have been building a more transparent and sustainable coffee supply chain, supporting thousands of farmers through agronomy training, improved infrastructure, access to resources, and better market opportunities. Their commitment to agriculture, community, and the environment was recognised through their B Corp certification in 2023.

The Rwenzori region is known for its fertile soils, high rainfall, and unique growing conditions. While the area is often celebrated for its Arabica coffees, Robusta remains an essential part of Uganda’s coffee heritage. Traditionally grown at lower altitudes and often alongside crops such as bananas and beans, Robusta plays a major role in the livelihoods of many farming communities.

This coffee is naturally processed, meaning the coffee cherries are dried whole before the beans are hulled. This traditional method preserves the coffee’s full character and contributes to a cup with more body, depth, and a distinctive profile.

We want to create the opportunity to experience what Robusta can be, start conversations around this variety, and explore its potential for the future. Specialty coffee  for us is not only about chasing the rarest lots; it is also about understanding the diversity, history, and possibilities within the world of coffee.
